FROM THE BOARD - January 2019
Happy New Year from the Placerville Food Coop Board of Directors! As we embark on a new year we would like to extend a warm welcome our two newly elected Board members, Lucy O'Dea and Haley Kenobbie.
Lucy is an organic farmer living and working in Placerville. Her passion for cooperation and healthy living is best represented through her membership at Flying V Farm, a worker-owned business here in Placerville. She hopes to apply her skills as a farmer and co-op enthusiast in her role on the board at the Placerville Food Co-op. When not farming, you can find Lucy cooking, exploring, grooving to music, or enjoying a good book.
Haley began working at the co-op in 2014 as a cashier. She was quickly promoted to a shift lead and within her first year, she was a buyer in our grocery department. Haley has a genuine interest and passion for natural food co-ops (she has an amazing collection of co-op t-shirts!)
She was promoted to Center Store Manager in 2016, which means she is in charge of all of our grocery, perishable, and mercantile. She oversees budgets, purchasing, promotions, merchandising, special orders, Food Hub customers, and much more. Her departments have had double-digit growth for over 18 consecutive months.
Haley has been the recipient of three cooperative grants that allowed her to further her passion for co-ops. She has gained extensive knowledge in basic grocery business as well as the cooperative business model. This combination allows her to excel at her demanding role. Her next role as the first-ever employee board member is a natural fit. She is thrilled to represent staff at board meetings as she learns more about board governance and the inner workings of the cooperative business model. We look forward to their contributions to the co-op as board members!
A huge thanks to you, our members for supporting the co-op in 2018, and we look forward to a joyous and prosperous 2019!
In cooperation,
Sarah Jones
